VISION
To enhance access to justice for the poor and promote peaceful co-existence in the Kibera community

GOAL
A just democratic and peaceful Kenya founded on public participation, rule of law, equity and respect for human rights.

OBJECTIVE
  • To respond to the human rights needs by educating and empowering the people of Kibera with knowledge and capacity to advocate for their rights and improve access to justice by offering a permanent space where people can discuss this rights by 2018
  • To promote peaceful co-existence by stregthening the capacity of the community to accomodate the diversity and encourage solidarity in looking for peaceful solutions to their problems by 2018.
  • To improve the community participation in the use of public funds, policy reforms and demand for accountable governance amongst state and non-state actors by 2018


STEPS: -
Offering pro bono legal aid support, identifying and building the capacity of existing Alternative dispute resolution structures, civic education and legal awareness for the youth, training and support of peace circles, training/support of peace groups and DPC members on ADR, Support local youths art and theatre, inter faith peace forums, sensitization on the new governance structures, training of social accountability group, training of MCAs on public participation.

  • Setting up the Kibera Slum resettlement Watch
  • Devolved funds
  • Railway evictions
  • Celebration of calendar marked days


Target Group: -
100% urban slum dwellers residing in Kibera, that is: - the Small Christian Communities (Jumuiyas) and Faith Based Organizations, CBO’s, Schools in Kibera, Tangaza college, Catholic University, Guadalupe & St. Patrick’s Missionaries, KUTOKA Network, Catholic Scholars of East Africa and Masters Programme of Kroc Institute, Diplomatic Personnel, U.N Habitat, the Media, Amnesty International and Trocaire Partners.
Provincial Administration and the Judicial System,
Youths, Existing tribal groups and the village elders.

ACCESS TO JUSTICE
Paralegal training of village elders, youth, women and Chiefs
Holding public forums to discuss the Constitution
Forming community support/action groups based on most prone areas,
Supporting formed Action Groups
Enhancing capacity of formal justice actors
Supporting the setting up of the Court Users Committee at the Kibera Law Courts
Court attendance and follow-ups


MAINSTREAMING

PEACE BUILDING

  • Holding of consultative meetings with the local Admin., FBOs’, youth the community and women,
  • Training of the Peace Committees on different skills e.g. community policing,
  • Supporting the local FM Stations Peace messages’/programmes,
  • Strengthening already existing women and youth peace initiatives
